Water Tank Installation & Removal FAQs

How much does water tank removal cost?

Mike charges an hourly rate rather than a fixed per-tank price. Most residential tank removals are done within a day, including haul-away. For concrete tanks that need breaking up on-site, or tight access sites that need extra time, Mike gives you an hours estimate after a free on-site visit. Call Mike directly for his current hourly rate.

Do you install the new tank too, or just prep the site?

Mike handles everything on the earthworks side: site prep, pad preparation, old tank removal, new tank placement. The plumbing connection — downpipes, distribution, pumps — is done by a plumber. If you haven't got one booked, Mike can recommend one.

Can you remove a concrete water tank?

Yes. Mike smashes up the old concrete tank on-site, loads the broken concrete into the tipper, and takes it to the dump — all on one load. Site left clean and level, ready for the new tanks or whatever's next. Mike handles above-ground and partially-buried concrete tanks. Fully underground concrete tanks need larger machinery — Mike can advise if your job falls into that category.

How do you handle positioning the new tank?

Mike uses a strop attached to the digger to lift and position the new tank. No crane needed — Mike handles the positioning himself as part of the job. Once the tank is in place, he checks level with his laser level, adjusts if needed, and hands over to the plumber.

Do you prep the pad to manufacturer's spec?

Yes. Every tank has a recommended pad spec — level, correctly sized footprint, overflow drainage. Mike works to the manufacturer's requirements (or the engineer's plans for larger installs) so the tank sits as designed and works as intended.

Can you do tight access tank jobs — narrow driveways or fenced backyards?

Yes — this is actually where Mike's setup shines. The 5-ton zero-swing digger and narrow-body slider truck fit through 2-metre gates and down narrow driveways where bigger tank contractors can't reach. Text Mike a photo of your access and he'll confirm fit.

What happens to the old tank?

Hauled away in the tipper truck, direct to disposal. No skip bins, no separate cartage company. If the old tank has value (some larger poly tanks can be on-sold), Mike will discuss your options at the on-site visit.

What suburbs do you cover?

South and East Auckland — Beachlands, Botany, Clevedon, Flat Bush, Glen Innes, Howick, Mission Bay, Mount Wellington, Pakuranga, Pukekohe, Takanini, Whitford. Outside that area? Call Mike — he travels for the right job.
